Exciting News From Bing and Yahoo!

In our last update we shared that we had begun testing Bing results in Yahoo! search as we move forward with our transition.

Today I am happy to share that Bing is powering Yahoo!’s search results in the US and Canada (English only for now, the other languages will come in the weeks and months ahead).

So what’s next?  We continue to work hard on the migration to adCenter, and are optimistic about completing this phase later this fall.  As we have said all along, our primary goal is to provide advertisers with a quality transition experience in 2010, while being mindful of the holiday season.

This is a great milestone for Bing and Yahoo! and our customers, and we are happy to report the transition has gone smoothly and we feel great about the progress our search alliance has been making over the summer.

Well done! Standalone software development is difficult enough. Development of a complex system like a search engine is extremely difficult. But to work on a software integration project between 2 search engines – from 2 companies with different mindsets and development tool strategies – and to get a successful integration outcome, this is a quite an achievement.

What will the future hold for this complete transition. To be honest actually i am a little afraid that Yahoo will become Netscape which is now on the brink of extinction.

So what are you going to do with the redundant processing power? Hope the Bing results will index new pages more quickly.

so that means my yahoo website page index is accessible by using Bing in the US? because I have > 1000 pages indexed in yahoo and < 100 in bing.. ?

This merger has both good and bad consequences. From an SEO standpoint some of our results dropped rankings while others gained. On a personal level I think this will cause quite a few companies to lose money, both large and small amounts. This definitely shifts all SEO companies and effects more then both Yahoo & Microsoft understand, or perhaps not. But not only will this cause a reshift in SEO but it will also cause a reshift in programs set to help SEM companies.

Its all good, would like to see some good link metrics though, like Blekko are doing.
