• The Spurs fell short last year, losing to the Heat in dramatic fashion. Tim Duncan is as steady as they come and will have to turn in another solid year if he wants to add one more championship to his resume.

7. Jeremy Lin – @JLin7

• Jeremy Lin enters his second season with the Houston Rockets fighting for the starting point guard spot. The Linsanity phenomenon has calmed down, but the Rockets look to be a contender in the west.

• Dwight Howard’s move from Los Angeles to Houston was one of the biggest stories of summer. Now he’ll have to show he’s worth that max contract by guiding the Rockets into the playoffs.

9. Dwyane Wade – @DwyaneWade

• Dwyane Wade is after his fourth championship this year and alongside his running mates LeBron James and Chris Bosh, the Miami Heat are the favorites to win the title.

10. Carmelo Anthony – @carmeloanthony

• Carmelo Anthony was the NBA scoring champion last year and the Knicks will need every one of his 28 points per game to compete in the tough eastern conference this season.
