Bing’s Summer Update

It’s been a crazy and exciting year for Bing. We’ve been humbled by the reception we have received in the market, and grateful for all the feedback on what you have liked, and what we need to do better.

Today we are beginning the rollout of our summer update, which is a release packed with features aimed at making it easier for you to complete tasks and make better decisions.

With this release, we’ve attempted to do a couple of things.

First, we want to better understand search intent and surface the right tools for you in visually organized, easy-to-use ways. To this end, we have made some major changes to Bing’s user interface which we hope you will like and find useful. We are introducing a feature called the Quick Tabs which sit across the top of the Bing pages highlighting the best and most relevant search results available on Bing, organized in tabs that match the most common decisions you might want to make based on what we know of your search intent.

Secondly, we have gone deeper in some of our existing vertical areas, with more definitive content sources for health related queries, more decision-focused travel answers, new and more relevant news, shopping, and finance experiences, just to name a few.

Lastly, we have made a big bet on entertainment, a top search focus for customers. 10 percent of search queries are entertainment-related, and Bing is making a first step today to help having a great entertainment experience on Bing easy and fun, so you spend less time searching for entertainment and more time doing the stuff you love.

Over the next few days, we will post a number of blogs that drill down into these key areas. We’ll keep a running list of links to those blogs here in this post, so you can come back and easily find new ones. Or, you can just check out the blogs directly at http://www.bing.com/community.

This release is a great milestone for Bing. We have lots more in store in the weeks and months ahead, and I want to thank you again for all the great feedback and encouragement, keep it coming.
