Bing Maps Powers The National Grid

NationalGrid_0Remember when President Obama announced support for a national smart grid? Well, we’re seeing some of this money being put to good use on the National Grid web site in the form of smart grid data visualization using The Bing Maps Platform. In partnership with iFactor Consulting, The National Grid now has 5 areas (Massachusetts, Nantucket, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Upstate New York) online outlining coverage areas and pinpoint outage issues in a simple to use application.

In a mail from Brad Selio,” National Grid US recently completed the release of a new section of their website, called Outage Central. The functionality on this site is powered by iFactor Consulting’s Storm Center product, and delivers real-time power outage information to customers, the media, and emergency officials.  The interactive outage maps on the site are built using Microsoft Bing Maps, providing a powerful, easy to use mapping experience which detailed data coverage throughout the service territory. The solution also features interactive forms which allow a user to check current outage status and report power problems. These forms are built using the ASP.NET 3.5 platform from Microsoft, which powers both the presentation and application layers for this functionality.”
