Christmas special: What you searched for in 2010!

As we prepare to bid farewell to 2010 and usher in the New Year, we at Bing Australia have taken the opportunity the look back at the year that was.

2010 will be memorable for a number of reasons yet celebrities often stole the limelight and we saw marriages and splits, births and deaths, and enough scandals to last a decade. Now that the dust has settled, who was the year’s most searched celebrity on Bing Australia?

It was Aussie bikini babe Lara Bingle who topped the list courtesy of her notorious nude scandal and her dramatic split with cricketer Michael Clarke. Coming in second was teen idol Justin Bieber followed by outrageous pop diva Lady Gaga and America’s most powerful personality Oprah Winfrey, who can thank her recent visit Down Under for her lofty position.

Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson and Aussie model Miranda Kerr sit in fifth and sixth respectively, whilst Miley Cyrus, Michael Jackson, Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian round out the top ten.

The most searched television show was Masterchef followed by Underbelly and X-Factor, whilst Packed to the Rafters and Top Gear both ranked highly. As for films, it was The Twilight Saga that beat the second-placed blockbuster Avatar for top honours.

Meanwhile, Singapore was the most searched travel destination followed by Bali, New Zealand and Fiji. What about Australian destinations you ask? Well bragging rights belong to sunny Perth, which pipped Tasmania and Darwin.

In other news, stay tuned for an announcement regarding Bing Australia’s much anticipated ‘Visual Search’. This rich feature provides a new, visually stunning way to search for Australia’s favourtie topics including sport stars, local restaurants and the world’s best beaches.

From everyone in the Bing Australia team have a great Christmas and a happy New Year!
