Calling All Coders: Bing Code Search Arrives

Over the past few years, we have been working hard to deliver the capabilities of Bing to products across Microsoft. Whether you’re using Xbox, Windows Phone, Office or Windows 8, we’ve begun a journey to make it easier to find the stuff you are looking for and take action.  Following that path, today in collaboration Visual Studio and Microsoft Research, we’re excited to announce the availability of Bing Code Search add-in for Visual Studio 2013.  This expands the work we released in November that streamlined how MSDN API information was indexed and presented in Bing search results.

A free extension for Visual Studio, Bing Code Search allows you to quickly find code samples from the top code repositories on the web including MSDN, StackOverflow, Donnetperls and CSharp411.  Now you can launch a search directly from the context of what you’re doing- in this case coding.   Bing is able to use signals and metadata including project type and semantic context (e.g. C#/VB compiler) combined with our vast index to deliver relevant code samples served directly into the Visual Studio experience.  In a few short clicks, you have a focused set of samples to review so you can continue coding without missing a beat.
You can read more about the release on the Visual Studio blog here, and on Bing blogs here. To learn more about Bing as a Platform and access other Bing developer tools check out the Bing Developer Center.
Happy coding.
