Today we are releasing a completely re-imagined search experience* for video on Bing. Designed from the ground up, the new experience includes streamlined navigation showcasing larger and higher resolution previews so you can quickly browse, discover and view videos on the web.
We know there is more than one great video service out there and that’s why we showcase the best the web has to offer. On Bing you can not only find great videos from YouTube, Hulu and Vimeo, but also content from Dailymotion, Vevo, MTV, CBS, MSN and more.
Let’s take a look at the changes:
Pop-out Hover Preview:Rather than making you travel to a site to see if a video is the one you’re looking for, we updated our preview mode so now you can simply roll the cursor over the video thumbnail to see a short preview. We also expanded the information displayed about a video to speed up your search and now show favicons from the top sites, view counts, descriptions, and bold your search terms in the titles. Additionally, we’ve added a control for our previews so you can adjust the volume level of the preview playback.
Another subtle but powerful feature are the filter improvements. The resolution filter now takes into account common video sizes such as 720
. The source
filters are also more specific to the segment for which you are searching. You can also sort by date
to ensure you’re getting the freshest (or oldest) videos available.
Video Overlay and Improved Navigation: Once you find a video that you want to watch we present a video overlay that lets you easily browse to the next video without having to leave the collection. Moving to another video is simple with the easy-to-click carousel at the bottom of the light box. If you haven’t found what you’re looking for we’ve include a list of related searches in the right rail so you can easily narrow down your search. You can also see the source and the number of views directly under the videos so at a glance you know which videos are most popular.
Take video search for a spin and let us know what you think by tweeting to us @Bing.
