MSN and Bing – a Match Made in Redmond

msn

The Hallways here are all a flutter as we celebrate with our MSN teammates. Today marks another milestone in the history of the MSN Homepage.

With a new, streamlined and less cluttered appearance you will be able to navigate more quickly to the information and services you use on a daily basis like online videos, local information, news, entertainment, sports, money, lifestyle and of course your familiar Bing search experience built in.

You will see Bing’s integration throughout the MSN experience in key areas including shopping, travel, local, and as a way of highlighting hot topics, trends or people. Detailed local information is offered on the new MSN Local Edition, which is the only local online source that smartly combines Bing search and your real-time community news, which is grouped by ZIP code.

But wait. There’s more. With the new MSN homepage, you will now be able to stay up to date with all your friends and social networks like Windows Live, Facebook and Twitter right from the homepage.

The new MSN homepage preview will begin rolling out tomorrow (November 4, 2009) and become widely available to over 100 million U.S. customers early 2010.

We encourage you all to try it out and let the MSN team know what you think. As always your feedback is important to all of us.

Congrats to the MSN team. The new MSN has never looked so good.

I love it! So clean and modern.

It's a few pixels out in various places. One of those little things that bugs perfectionists, but I'm sure it'll get cleaned up before it goes live.

In the area of shopping Bing gets an "A".

But in the area of indexing and web product and news results, an "D".

Goolge now holds 80% of the search traffic, went up even more this year because the lack of competition by Bing and Yahoo in providing relevant search results.

This is based on not just the hundreds of websites I have indexed on worldwide engines each year. It's based on the fact that I run numerous sites for celebrities and large companies. I can not get them to place high in the results of Bing even though they are the most relevant to the search terms, like the persons name or the company name.

Bing does not place relevant pages on the first couple pages of results. I have been working with engines for years and the bottom line is the method used by Bing for pushing pages to the top based on relevance does not work. I want it to, it would be great to see Google knocked off their high horse, but Bing has failed.

    News about the same.

Example…hot topic "ereader", run the the term on bing then google in both web and news. The results are clear, google is more up to date and relevant, every time.

You can run the same terms or another hot topic term every few hours, google wins by a clear margin in relevant results time after time.

Why do I bring this up. Because I want Bing to compete…

I'm loving it… it's sleek and super-clean – great work guys! MSN used to be a little too much clutter for my eyes – now I have no problem making it my homepage once again :)
